Royal Air Force Typhoon jets have operated alongside French aircraft in a combined operation against an hidden munitions depot in Syria operated by the Daesh militant organization, as stated by the UK's MoD.
The location, located using intelligence, was thought to be containing munitions and bombs, the announcement noted, and was located in mountainous terrain just above Palmyra in the heart of Syria.
"Our aircraft employed precision-guided Paveway IV munitions to hit a number of entry passages providing entry to the facility... early reports suggest the objective was successfully hit," officials stated.
There was no sign of any civilian impact in the attack on Saturday evening and all the aircraft returned safely, the MoD added.
The British jets were supported by a Voyager refuelling tanker.
The Islamic State group - referred to as ISIS - imposed jihadist rule over parts of Iraq and Syria until 2019.
"This action shows British leadership, and commitment to work closely with allied nations, to stamp out any re-emergence of IS and their harmful and extremist ideologies in the region," UK Defence Secretary the Defence Secretary stated.
British military aircraft have conducted surveillance missions over Syria to "prevent any attempted resurgence" of Islamic State after its military defeat at the Baghuz confrontation in the year 2019, the ministry said.
"I extend gratitude to the personnel of the UK armed forces participating in this operation for their professionalism and their courage," the Defence Secretary said. "They were part of thousands of UK service members deployed over the festive period. This mission, to eliminate militants who threaten our safety, highlights how our armed forces are always on standby, throughout the year, keeping Britain secure within its borders and influential overseas."
During December, the United States armed forces conducted what it termed a "large-scale strike" on Daesh sites in Syria, after an assault killed two American soldiers and a civilian linguist in Palmyra.
The U.N. estimates Islamic State still boasts between 5,000 and 7,000 combatants in both countries.
